This was a style experiment that I did a couple of years ago in Adobe Illustrator using a limited palette of colors. Copyright Vincent Desjardins.
This was my entry for this week’s ‘Blown Covers’ contest. The theme was weddings. I wasn’t feeling too inspired, but I had fun anyway. I tried to make this cross section of a New York building look like the panels of a comic strip. My title for this was ‘Second Thoughts.’ Created in Painter 12, copyright Vincent Desjardins.
A quick sketch created in Painter for “Illustration Friday.” The word challenge was Sweater. This was my first idea. The version I ended up submitting was entirely different.
This is one of my earliest illustrations created using Painter. This was from the days when it was still owned by Fractal Design. I think this was created around 1994 or 95. Some of the details in the image were created with Painter’s ‘image hose,’ which I think was fairly new at the time. My inspiration for this image was the “Gormenghast,” trilogy of books by the great English author, Mervyn Peake. Copyright Vincent Desjardins.
An illustration I created in 2010 as a submission for Tomie dePaola’s annual SCBWI illustration challenge. The challenge for this particular year was to illustrate the opening scene of “Heidi.” I colored the image with collaged textures of actual leaves and flowers that I scanned and then tweaked in Photoshop. I also did some additional painting on the image in Corel Painter. I actually ended up re-doing this illustration and submitting a slightly different version, but there are still things I like about this version. Copyright Vincent Desjardins.
